Frequently asked questions
How long to get Mexican residency if married to a Mexican citizen?
You begin as Temporary Resident and become eligible for Permanent Resident after 2 years of continuous Temporary status. After 2 more years as Permanent, you can apply for Mexican citizenship by naturalization. Total: about 4 years from first entry.
Does marriage to a Mexican citizen bypass financial solvency requirements?
Yes. Family Unit route does NOT require the UMA-based financial solvency thresholds. Instead, the Mexican spouse demonstrates ability to financially support the applicant via their own income or joint household resources.
Can same-sex couples use the Mexico Family Unit Visa?
Yes. Mexico recognizes same-sex marriage at the federal level and for immigration. The foreign marriage must be apostilled and translated. Common-law/civil unions may require additional documentation.
