Frequently asked questions

Can I work in Mexico on a Student Visa?

Not by default. After your first year as a Temporary Resident Student, you can request a work-permission add-on (lucrativa) with a specific Mexican employer who has registered a NUT for you.

Does my Mexico Student Visa convert to a regular Temporary Resident Visa after graduation?

No, not automatically. You must apply for a regular Temporary Resident status (usually via Family Unit, Work, or Financial Solvency) or leave Mexico and apply from a consulate. Student time is treated separately from the 4-year Permanent Resident track.

Can my spouse join me on a Mexico Student Visa?

Yes, via Family Unit. Your spouse applies separately and must show you can financially support the household. Children can be sponsored the same way.
